Dart & Rail

In Dublin, you can find 2 types of trains and rails:

  • DART trains
  • Commuter trains or Rails

DART stands for ‘Dublin Area Rapid Transit’ and is a high-frequency service along Dublin’s coastline.

The DART route runs from North Dublin's Malahide or Howth stations south to Greystones in County Wicklow. DART services operate every 10 minutes all day.

Commuter services serve suburbs and satellite towns in the Greater Dublin area. They are split up into four lines:

  • Northern Commuter
  • Southeastern Commuter
  • Southwestern Commuter
  • Western Commuter

However, you can occasionally encounter services which commence on one line and terminate on another.  Check out Dublin’s train map.

Commuter Services are provided by Irish Rail.
