At The Grafton Hotel, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment for all our guests and staff. We recognise the diverse needs of our visitors and aim to ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe, comfortable, and barrier-free experience throughout their stay. Our building and services are designed to meet modern accessibility standards across all areas of the hotel.

The Grafton Hotel is committed to ensuring accessibility for all visitors, both in our physical premises and on our website, in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

Building Accessibility

Entry Routes

  • The main entrance is accessible via a level surface along the public footpath on Stephen Street Lower.
  • Accessible Entrances
  • Main entrance doors exceed the minimum effective clear width of 1000mm.
  • Additional entrances, including terrace and service doors, also meet accessible width standards.

Door Systems

  • A combination of power-operated and manual doors, all suitable for accessible use.
  • Glass entrance doors are clearly marked and visually contrasted for easy recognition.
  • All internal doors meet current accessibility requirements.

Reception Area

  • Located at ground level and clearly identifiable.
  • Fully accessible route from the entrance to the reception desk.
  • Reception desk is designed to accommodate wheelchair users.

Vertical Circulation

  • Two passenger lifts serve all public and guest floors, from the basement to the sixth floor.
  • Two stairwells provide access to all levels, each with continuous handrails for stability.
  • Main disabled refuge panel is located in the back office
  • Each stairwell has two disabled refuge call points per floor.

Sanitary Facilities

  • Accessible bathrooms are provided in public areas, basement, and staff sections.
  • Emergency assistance alarms are within reach of wheelchair users.
  • Emergency call systems include both visual and audible indicators.
  • Floors are firm and slip-resistant, with high-contrast finishes for better visibility.

Accessible Sleeping Accommodation

  • The hotel includes 6 accessible guest rooms out of 128 total rooms.
  • Accessible room numbers: 108, 208, 308, 408, 508, and 605.
  • Accessible rooms are available on various floors for convenience.
  • Each room includes:
    • Visual fire alarm signals
    • Emergency assistance alerts
    • Layout designed for easy wheelchair manoeuvrability

Refreshment Facilities

  • Bars and restaurants located on the ground floor and basement are fully accessible.
  • Accessible counters and ample manoeuvring space are provided throughout.

Digital Accessibility

We are continuously working to make our website accessible to as many users as possible by adhering to WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria. This includes:

  • Sufficient colour contrast for text and interface elements
  • Text alternatives for all non-text content (e.g., images)
